I can help.

Working from the human givens approach, a brief, solution-focused approach, we help people feel better and move on in their lives as quickly as possible. Practical and flexible, it combines the latest insights from neuroscience and psychological research with proven therapeutic techniques from a wide range of approaches to provide highly effective interventions tailored to individual clients.

I’m Steve Johnson and I set up a lagom life to help people quickly and confidently figure out their present challenges, get clear on what to change and how, and then bravely take first steps to repair, rebuild, transform and get some balance back in their life.

​

I work with adults from my therapy room in Worksop. I also offer sessions via Zoom or FaceTime. Our initial chat can be on Zoom, FaceTime or phone, whichever you prefer – and you could be booked in as early as this week or next.

I am a Human Givens psychotherapist / counsellor offering brief, solution-focused therapy for adults experiencing emotional distress or reconnecting to their life goals.

I spent 25 years working in various process, analysis & consulting roles in IT, in both the private and public sector. Helping other people has always been the part of my work, my volunteering (with a local mental health charity and food bank) and everyday life that has given me the most joy. Discovering the Human Givens organising idea I realised that by learning new skills and a fundamental, robust, psychobabble-free approach I could help more people in a better way.

The simple act of borrowing a brain for a session or few is all it takes to create the space and perspective to tip the first domino and lead on to the next chapter of their life story.

​

My aim with all clients is to understand the specific challenges they’re experiencing – with work, studies, relationships, parenting, motivation, mindset, self-esteem, overwhelm or stress  – and equip them going forward to get their emotional needs met as healthily as possible. Clients often feel empowered and motivated from as early as the first session and are equipped to take the actions – minuscule or massive – that they know will make a meaningful difference.

As a Human Givens therapist I am highly motivated and committed to:

  • briefness – I want you to come in, be resourced and confidently move forward with life in as few sessions as that takes

  • simplicity – in the language I speak, the methods I use and the strategies I share

  • respect and non-judgement – I believe that in all circumstances there are good, uplifting and hopeful conversations to be had about your future and how you want to live it.

I hold an Enhanced DBS certificate and am registered with the ICO and as a Member of the HGI.​

Book a Session

Your first step is to fill in my contact form or email me using the contact details below. I’ll get back to you to organise a quick first conversation (15-minutes, no charge) – on Zoom, FaceTime or by phone. I do this so that I can better understand what it is you’d like to see change and it allows you to ask me any questions you might still then have.

If you’re keen to go ahead, we’ll get a 60-minute session booked in and from there you’ll be emailed some start up information with a couple of short forms. Complete and return them, then show up for your first session with me on the agreed day and time.

And that’s it … you did it. The journey towards the changes you want to see and a lagom life has already begun.
